Woodman Close, Sparsholt - Information Event

Following the information event, one comment was received about the design of the homes. The respondent stated that the concerns raised at previous consultations had been addressed by the architects.
Two comments were received about the loss of car parking on Bostock Close to allow for the proposed development. Both comments were a request to provide additional parking spaces in Stockwell Place, which is opposite the site, to compensate for this.
There have been consultations led by the Council's estate improvement team regarding car parking in the area. The car parking comments received from this information event have been provided to the estate improvement team and are being considered as part of the ongoing dialogue with residents and councillors.
Overview
The new homes team at Winchester City Council have appointed T2 architects to develop the proposed design for the potential affordable housing site in Woodman Close, Sparsholt.
At the consultation event in November 2019 there was support for a 5 unit scheme consisting of 2, two bedroom bungalows and 3, one bedroom houses.
The council has declared a climate emergency and is working to meet its target of the activities of the council being carbon neutral by 2024, with the wider district following by 2030.
The council plan 2020-2025 places carbon neutrality at the heart of all the council does and one of the ways this will be met is to ensure all homes are energy efficient and affordable to run with low heating demands.
The proposed Woodman Close affordable housing scheme has undergone an energy review, which has shown that improvements in energy efficiency could be achieved. T2 architects were tasked with taking this review forward into the design.

It is envisaged the scheme will then progress to a planning application in the summer 2021, with work commencing late 2021 if permission is granted, completing within one year.
Further details regarding timescales will be communicated to residents as the scheme develops.
