More information about gender identity

Under the Equality Act, sex is understood as binary – a man or a woman. This is determined at birth on the basis of primary sex characteristics and reproductive functions. Gender, however, refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, expressions, and identities that an individual possesses, and exists beyond the binary.
