Housing Development Strategy
Overview
Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities today. In our 2024 Residents Survey, you told us clearly: the availability of affordable homes is the most urgent issue in our district—and your top priority for Council action.
This draft Housing Development Strategy sets out our commitment to increasing the supply of affordable homes and improving housing outcomes for all. We recognise that when people are unable to find a home that meets their needs in a place they want to live, the consequences are far-reaching. Inadequate housing affects health and wellbeing, limits educational and employment opportunities, and undermines the social and economic vitality of our communities.
Why your views matter
This is not just a housing issue—it’s a community-wide challenge. That’s why we’re asking for your views.
This consultation is your opportunity to help shape the future of housing in our district. We want to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and anyone with a stake in our shared future. Your feedback will help ensure our final strategy is ambitious, inclusive, and grounded in the real experiences of those who live and work here.
