We're rethinking recycling

Overview

Winchester residents are amongst some of the best recyclers in Hampshire, something that we are very proud of.

However, how much you are able to recycle has always been restricted by not having the facilities in Hampshire to process a wider range of recycling, which means we cannot collect a wider range in your household waste and recycling service.*

There could now be some big changes on the horizon, with new government legislation and proposed changes to waste processing across the county from Hampshire County Council, giving a once-in-a generation opportunity to significantly increase household recycling and reduce waste across the district. This is brilliant news for our ambitions of becoming a greener district.

While the specific details, including funding arrangements, have not yet been released by national government, we want to be prepared and find out more about your household's waste and recycling, and what you’d like to see in the future.

Thank you for your time.

*Winchester City Council collect your waste and recycling, which is then taken to facilities managed by Hampshire County Council who are then responsible for processing your recycling and disposing of your waste.
