The City Council’s Car Parking Strategy - Review 2016

The City Council’s District Car Parking Strategy covering the period 2014 -2018 was adopted following public consultation in the autumn of 2013

This strategy sets out Winchester City Council’s approach to managing the provision of car parking to serve Winchester itself (which for clarity we refer to as ‘Winchester Town’)  and in the market towns of New Alresford, Bishops Waltham, Wickham, Whiteley and Denmead.

As a strategic document it does not set out each and every decision or action that will affect car parking in the District but does provide a framework for decision making in the period 2014 to 2018. The strategy focuses primarily on off-street public car parking provision and was set out with the provision to be reviewed regularly.

The full strategy is set out in the link below

At the heart of this strategy is the principle that we should have enough car parking spaces in appropriate locations to ensure the success of our town centres and improve the quality of our environment.

Why your views matter

This is a mid term review, we looking to ensure that we are making progress on the delivery of the strategy.

What happens next

The results will be used to refresh the adopted Parking Strategy which was adopted in 2014 and covers the period to 2018.

Any decisions regarding the strategy will be taken by Cabinet in Autumn 2016
